did not, in fact, get the tickets. was ready at 12:00 but show sold out instantly. very very very upset.

despondent, even. actually cried over this. shut up. ;-P

[the worst part??? is that both phoenix shows sold out in less than an hour, while i was on the internet and the phone trying desperately to score two tickets for us. but the show in dallas a few days later? still has tickets available, even now!!!! i think a ton of l.a. people flooded the phoenix show, since it's so close and he's--wisely--not playing l.a.....either that, or phoenix is full of hundreds of rabid tom waits fans that i have never met and apparently need to. but my money's on the former.

but here's the real dilemma: my parents live in dallas. i'd love to go visit them anyway, and we'd have a free place to stay and use of a car if we can just get out there. the drive is about fifteen hours and pretty intensely boring. i make more money than mike--i would have happily bought him a ticket to the show, but i can't afford to get us both out to dallas if we're flying. and going without him isn't an option--we are team springet, man. what do i do? forget about the whole thing?? help!]

our new fancy 'artist bio' portraits, taken this afternoon by mike and by me, respectively. what do you think?? i'm always impressed when either of us can take a decent photo--we're painters, not photographers! i call my camera the magic silver shiny picture-making box! it steals souls, for all i know! ;)

it would have probably taken a pro about five minutes to do what it took us an hour and a half to achieve, but i think we did pretty well. you know.

mike, me, my mom, my brother chris and my grandmother all went to the farm at south mountain [more pictures of the farm itself to come, eventually] for mother's day lunch [because no one really likes 'brunch.']. this actually served a devious double purpose, as mike and i are hoping [maybe] to have our wedding at the farm next november, so this served as a fact-finding, food-tasting mission as well. mission accomplished--everyone loved the food and the setting, and now we're really really hoping that this will be the place for the wedding. it was a good mother's day! :)

[ the triumphant return of.........daily outfit!!!! - 5.15.08 - uploaded to wardrobe_remix ]

[i've been missing my vintage dresses lately, dressing shamefully in the shabbiest of jeans and dirty t-shirts for work.......so i've decided to start hauling these out of the closet one one by one and wearing them again! currently rocking one of my favorite color combinations, mustard yellow & black....]

yellow sundress: vintage
black beaded cardigan: hand-me-down from mom [only for fending off the chill of air conditioning, since it's becoming summer here more and more with every passing day!]
black leather mary janes: mervyn's
giant black plastic bead necklace: target?
dork-tastic cat's-eye reading glasses ;)

biting my nails, waiting for friday. i'm so nervous that tickets will just sell out immediately, or that i'll do something wrong at the last second and end up with nothing to show for it. ha ha. siiighh. ;)

[i won't be happy until i have two tickets in my hand!!!.............well, until i have an email receipt for two legitimate tickets in my inbox, i guess. stupid paperless society! no satisfaction.]

current mood: nail-bitten.

fourth post of the day?? unprecedented!! just catching up on some old news & photos, in case anyone's been wondering what i've been up to..............

last friday we celebrated my birthday at the very swanky kazimierz wine bar in scottsdale with some good friends--in fact, 75% of our future wedding party was there! we hitched a ride to and from the place and so proceeded to pass the evening in a blur of red wine and merriment not usually seen when one of us is driving home. ahhhhhh, fuzzy memories. 'tis the stuff good birthdays are made of!

[ onward, dear friends, for more debauchery and winery! ] )

- tickets to see tom waits
- my new tattoo
- an accordion

...........short of maybe some booze and whores, i can't think of any possible better use to put it to! watch me stimulate the economy!! ;)

current music: tom waits, heartattack and vine

ohmygodohmygodohmygod!!!! do you know what goes on sale at noon on friday???

tickets to see TOM muthafuckin' WAITS at the orpheum theatre, that's what!!!!!!

oh my god. so excited. you guys don't even know. i don't get excited. i am miss i'm-waiting-to-be-impressed.......well, not today!! this is a sign for sure, after all, it was one of this year's [half-joking] new year's resolutions. and i won't even have to drive hundreds of miles to do it, although i was willing [just spend hundreds of dollars, ha ha]. i already managed to see they might be giants, learned lace knitting, plus i got frickin' ENGAGED--now if i could just see mr. waits and learn the accordion this will have been a most satisfying year. ;)

[oh my god. i am so excited. i am like a kid right before christmas. you guys do not even understand.]

why does this seem like a bad idea to me? a thousand reasons, not the least of which is that, um, as an eater of food, i am pretty much affronted by this. because getting further from the land and moving into the laboratories has given our species the great malnutrition diseases of obesity and diabetes, widespread malnutrition even in an age [or at least, in a country] when most people eat too much. and the solution is to start growing meat in a petri dish? without the nagging problems, i suppose, of having a living, breathing animal attached to what we will now have to begin calling 'protein inputs' or something instead of 'meat,' since they will surely resemble real meat about as much as a mcnugget resembles chicken. ugggghhhhh.

no, but really, has anyone on my friends list read oryx and crake, by margaret atwood? shudder.
